Dr. Ellen is an endocrinologist. There are two other physicians in her practice. All three physicians are able to see any patient in the practice. Patient files and notes must be legible for all physicians, who may need to see a patient when their usual physician is unavailable. When a new patient is diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, Dr. Ellen wants to maximize her access to the history and treatments of similar patients, not just those she has personally followed in her career.
Dr. Ellen uses DiaTrack to enter the matching criteria she finds to be of interest for this particular patient. A list of potential similar patients is produced for all patients in the DiaTrack system, not just those in her own practice. A cursory examination of the result set allows Dr. Ellen to determine if the search criteria should be broadened, narrowed, or accepted as they are.
While Dr. Ellen can see any details about patients within her own practice, she can see only anonymous information about other patients. The results screen shows patients identified by their criteria and current status – how well controlled their diabetes is. Patients from her own practice are highlighted using a different background color.
Selecting a patient allows here to see more in-depth details about that patient’s treatment history and status. To better visualize the patient data, Dr. Ellen chooses to show a graph next to each patient with selected measurements graphed against time. Using DiaTrack, Dr. Ellen can compare the patient histories against treatment options.
